What We Say:
A day where my mother and myself are actually in the same place at the same time, so we seize the opportunity by booking some down time by enjoying a package that was on offer from The Wolfscastle Country House Hotel and Spa.
On offer are two 30-minute treatments in their new spa, with a choice of either a 2-course lunch or an afternoon tea. £60 per person. Perfect!
We arrive a little early to enjoy a coffee and natter in the very comfortable surroundings of the bar/lounge of this lovely Country House. Coffee was served with a generous few chunks of homemade fudge, soft and a deliciously sweet to start our morning.
We were collected from the lounge to be taken through to the spa by our therapists, and after filling in the usual forms, change into our robes and slippers, locking away our phones along with the outside world. We recline into the loungers in the open plan area of the spa, where the nail treatments and booking in takes place. The spa itself is small and intimate, I’d say comfortably catering for no more than 6 at a time. Plans are afoot for expansion, as on the day we visit, they were building a separate sauna and outside hot tub, not that you would notice the building work as the spa is quiet and peaceful and provides us both with the space to relax and unwind.
I’d opted for a facial and pedicure and both exceeded my expectations, my therapist was friendly, discreet and experienced, balancing and gauging just the right amount of chatter required for my experience.
My mother also received a facial along with a gentle back massage both of which she very much enjoyed. In fact, she was so relaxed I had to nudge her awake in the relaxation room to dress for lunch.
Lunch was absolutely fantastic, far more than we expected. Served in the brasserie, where we could eat either inside or on the outside terrace. We opted for a window seat to soak up the early afternoon sunshine.
Our lunch consisted of starters, Smoked Chicken Caesar Salad, which was deliciously smoky served with a crisp salad and garlic croutons, and a Moroccan Roast Root Vegetable Salad, Goats Cheese, Orange, honey & Mint Dressing, which was rich, crispy, well seasoned and beautifully presented
For the main course we enjoyed a rich and creamy Beef Stroganoff, served with Straw Cut Chips and Rice and a Steak and Kidney Pie served with Mustard Mash and Green Vegetables.
Following a delightful morning in the spa and a delicious lunch we once again retired to the lounge to enjoy a final coffee before heading home.
The After Effects: Although this is a small spa, it is perfectly equipped, beautifully decorated and provides some excellent treatments. The spa does not feature a pool, but on our visit was undergoing an expansion to incorporate a sauna and hot tub. My mother and myself left feeling suitably pampered relaxed and ready for the day ahead.
