To say that an area ‘has it all’ would be to use an old cliché, and yet, West Wales really does have something to offer everyone. From adventure and education to rest and relaxation, mountains to coast, and everything in between, it’s all here – what are you waiting for?

West Wales is steeped in history. The setting for many of the stories in the oldest prose literature of Britain, the Mabinogion, West Wales is home to kings, queens, saints, Neolithic man and everything in between. It’s also an area steeped in folklore and tradition. From St Davids, home to our patron saint in Pembrokeshire, the industrial heritage of Carmarthenshire and the maritime traditions of Ceredigion, the area hums with vibrations from the past at ancient burial sites, castles and the very network of ancient lanes that criss-cross the area.

One of the show-stopping attractions of West Wales is the landscape itself – rolling hills, sweeping beaches, rocky coves. While the traditions of the past may form the backdrop to your time here, you can take part in some of the latest adventurous pursuits, all of which make the most of the stunning surroundings you’ll find yourself in. Kayaking, coasteering, diving, paddle boarding are all available around the West Wales coast. The Cambrian Mountains in Ceredigion, and the Preseli Mountains, the backbone of Pembrokeshire, offer walking, running, mountain biking – under the watchful eyes of the red kites soaring the skies.

Your ‘outdoors’ experience doesn’t need to end once you’ve handed back your life jackets, or taken off your cycle helmets. West Wales has a number of unique places to camp – whether you want to park your camper van a stone’s throw from the beach, or enjoy some ‘glamping’, there’s a camp site to suit you. Many will let you have open fires, and, because there is so little light pollution, as the sun goes down, you can stargaze to your heart’s content.

Renowned for its craft and design, many designer makers and those involved in artisan production here offer opportunities to have hands on experiences that aren’t always available elsewhere. If you can squeeze in some time between everything else while you’re here in West Wales, why not invest in a new skill. You can spend time at workshops throughout Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire learning everything from cooking to foraging, leatherwork to jewellery making.

If all this sounds a bit energetic, there’s plenty of rest and relaxation to be had in luxurious country house and spa hotel accommodation throughout the counties of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. Enjoy boutique shopping or laze about on one of our stunning beaches. There’s a myriad of cafes and restaurants serving up mouthwatering platefuls, so even self catering won’t be a chore – although West Wales is brimming with fresh, local produce which will have you heading for the kitchen. A welsh cake, subtly spiced and hot from the griddle, sprinkled with sugar is one of life’s simple pleasures. There’s fabulous fish and seafood, sustainably raised meat, delicious fresh vegetables. Add in the wealth of talented professionals creating breads, preserves, cheeses, cakes, wines and spirits, and you’ll start to understand why Wales is the ultimate foodie destination.

With museums and heritage centres, a huge variety of outdoor pursuits, and a wealth of relaxing retreats, West Wales makes the perfect holiday destination. And for those of us that live here – why go anywhere else?!
